The realm of cloud-native technologies experiences continuous growth, with numerous ventures competing to attain the highest level of development and gain the coveted distinction of becoming a graduate project under the auspices of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). One of these contenders is Cilium, which recently submitted an application to graduate within CNCF, thus reaching a significant milestone in its expedition. The official announcement occurred at KubeCon 2022 NA, held in Detroit.

Cilium, an extension of Kubernetes’ networking capabilities, focuses on networking and security. Its application for graduation indicates progress towards stability, expanded adoption, and preparedness for production, aligning with CNCF’s graduation prerequisites. The process involves meticulous scrutiny of the project’s community, governance, and technical robustness to ensure it is suitable for widespread usage and possesses a healthy, sustainable community.
